On August 12, 1984 William and Shannon Landers gave birth to their second child, Bryton Felix Landers. From a young age, it was obvious that Bryton had a life full of disappointment, betrayal, and loss ahead of him. The youngest of three, his older brother Jonathan and sister Karen were never known as the brightest bulbs on the tree. By the time he was fifteen, Jonathan had been arrested twice, was smoking and doing all kinds of drugs, not to mention the fact that he had already been drinking for two years. Karen on the other hand was just too busy with her multiple boyfriends to even remember she had a family. It was a sad day when Bryton realized that it seems as if he is the only smart one of his family. His brother and sister were nothing but constant troublemakers, both desperate for any and all attention to be on them, never really giving much thought to anyone else.

When Bryton was sixteen, his siblings reckless behavior became a obvious strain on his parents relationship, and on Christmas Morning after everyone opened their presents (they all got exactly what they had asked for..for the first time in their lives.) William and Shannon sat all three of their children down in front of a nice meal of turkey and mashed potatoes....and announced that they had just finalized their divorce. Apparently they had been planning on splitting up for months, and decided not to tell the children until all of the legal work was done. The rest of the meal was spent in silence, no one even made eye contact with anything in the room aside from the plates of food before them. By the end of that night...his father had moved out, leaving Bryton alone with a mother who was never around and two siblings who continued to carry on with their reckless, selfish behavior.

After only being out of the house for less then a month, Bryton one day decided he no longer wanted anything to do with his mother or siblings. He was sick and tired of being the only logical one in the house, he was sick of being the one to clean up after every meal, do all the laundry, make dinner even...he was not appreciated and he was aware of this. The only person in his house who ever seemed to give a damn about him was the one who got away while he still had the chance. One evening, Bryton snuck out of the house and rode his bike the three hours out of town to find his father. While there he begged and pleaded with the man to allow for him to move in with him, give him some space from that house and finally allow for him to have a life all his own. While unsure at first, after one short conversation with his mother...Bryton was allowed to move in.

Bryton was always looked upon as being the smart one of the family. While his brother was reading porn, his sister was reading gossip magazines, Bryton was enjoying reading novels written by such as William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac. He wanted a life for himself outside of the small Massachusetts town where everyone knew his entire life story. He wanted to hit it in the real world and make a splash as a writer, or perhaps even a radio DJ. He was always a big music fanatic. When it came time for making college decisions, it was easily narrowed down to several choices. Chicago, New York, Los Angeles or...Texas. Most would assume a young bright boy would chose one of the large cities, where he can grow as a person and a writer. However, he felt he would have more life expirence in Texas. And while everyone around him began to question his sanity, he knew he had made the right decision. He was going to go to Texas.

His first several months in Texas were spent reinventing himself. No longer was he the quiet, dark, mysterious Bryton Landers whom upon first glance most would assume he had a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas alone...he had decided that new state...new people...new man. He was going to change everything about himself. He had no problem making friends. Everyone was so nice, and they were all intelligent people, those of which he was not used to seeing much of...considering his family. He felt right at home in his new life, with the new him. While back home he had several girl issues, he promised himself that college would be all about having fun. He would meet some girls, fool around every now and then...but he refused to allow for himself to feel anything more then fleeting. He wanted to make something of himself, a relationship would cause a distraction from that. However...his promise did not last very long, because he met someone whom he could not deny. Kalen Jamison.

His relationship with Kalen started out just as any other relationship he had in the past. They were just two friends who found one another attractive and on occassion, fooled around a bit. They swore they would stop before anything got too serious, and at that point...Bryton honestly thought that could be possible. However he was clearly fooling himself because just as quickly as everything between them started...it grew serious within a matter of months. After months of denial, Bryton could not lie to himself. He had fallen for this girl. And he had fallen hard. These emotions however, terrified him..but somehow they agreeded to give a relationship a shot. For a while, things almost seemed perfect. Perhaps that's where it all went wrong. Perfection often times leads us to wonder what it would take to destroy it. And that is what was scaring him so much. And caused for Bryton to go into hiding for several months. His feelings for her scared him, and without saying much he went on a road trip, one that lasted several weeks. When he returned he was expecting to return to his girlfriend...who should have been happy to see him. However that was not the case. After a brief reunion, Kalen had admitted to Bryton that while he was away she had cheated on him...and she was unsure of her feelings for the other boy. This was all Bryton needed to hear before he turned around and headed back on the road. This time with no intention of ever returning to Texas or the girl he had fallen in love with.

Perhaps he left in a rather childish manner, but when the girl you're in love with informs you she cheated on you, and may have feelings for another...what do you do, but walk away? Bryton transfered from school at that point, and ended up choosing another random place. Connecticut. He had heard the local college had a rather decent journalism program and felt it was something that may do him well. Maybe he could meet more people here, better people here. Those who won't cheat, lie and break what was left of his already shattered ego. After being in Connecticut for almost a year and a half now, while he does on occasion find himself thinking about the one that got away...for the first time in his life, Bryton finally felt as if he found a sense of peace. Of course who knows how long that will last, now with the recent development that Kalen is in town.

After running into Kalen back at his new college, he tried everything in his power to avoid her. Yet no matter what he did, no matter where he looked...there she was. Just in his face constantly. It wasn't long before Bryton had to come to terms with the fact that he no longer did hate her, not that he ever did. Eventually the two began hanging out...and of course as it always goes, one thing led to another and before he knew it he was right back where he started. Hopelessly in love with her...and this time he was determined to keep her. Asking her to marry him may have sounded crazy to those who didn't know them...but to them? It was perfect. Being the Husband of Kalen Landers has turned out to be the greatest thing...he ever did.
